The new service turns an Android mobile device into a payment terminal. Entrepreneurs no longer need to purchase, install, or maintain separate POS equipment. This launch makes cashless payments more accessible to small and medium-sized businesses, mobile employees, delivery services, seasonal outlets, and other types of businesses where using a traditional terminal may previously have been inconvenient or economically impractical.
The project will give an additional boost to the development of cashless payments in Moldova. The expansion of OTP Bank Moldova’s mobile acquiring offering will contribute to an increase in the number of payment acceptance points and the development of the country’s modern payment infrastructure.

We are pleased to support OTP Bank Moldova in developing technology-driven payment services. This project makes SoftPOS technology available to a wider range of businesses, opening up new opportunities for payment acceptance. We are confident that the bank’s clients will appreciate the benefits of the new product,” said Vadzim Smatrayeu, VP of Fintech Services at IBA Group.
OTP Bank Moldova is currently one of the largest banks in Moldova and has been operating since 1990. The bank serves more than 130,000 clients, has over 50 branches across the country, and employs approximately 800 people.
It is worth noting that this is the second tapXphone project in Moldova to be successfully launched in 2026. Earlier, IBA Group added support for QR payments to Victoriabank’s SoftPOS application. The solution enables customers to pay for purchases by scanning a QR code displayed on the merchant’s smartphone screen using any banking application. The product is also successfully used by maib.
